Changzhou Children Welfare Institute was the only local orphanage located at 190 Wuqing Road in Changzhou. It was founded in March 1957 and managed by Changzhou Civil Administration. It provides various services for abandoned infants and disabled orphans found in Changzhou including family adoption, fosterage, therapy and recovery, education and entertainment.
For many years, supported by Party committees and governments at different levels and all walks of society, Changzhou Children Welfare Institute improved the quality of the faculty and services and children’s living conditions through deepening the reform and enhancing management. The institute adheres to the principle of people-first and serving the orphans whole-heartedly. We make efforts to provide good medical treatments for children. For example, we are carrying out the project called the project for tomorrow. We also further our exchange and cooperation with the Amity Fundation, the USA Half Sky Fundation and the USA Children Hometown Fundation and the UK MBL Fundation to build a nice environment for children’s healthy growth. The institute has been an important window to show the development of welfare causes in Changzhou and has been appraised as an Excellent Unit annually since 1986.
Changzhou government decided to carry out the Rebuilding Hongmei Park Project in 2005 in order to create a more beautiful living environment. Because of our location inside the relocation area, during the transition period we have moved into a place which was an old factory before. The new institute will be designed according to the first-class standard and put into use in 2007 with a total investment of 30 million RMB. It covers one hectare with a total construction area of 6,000 square meters including living rooms, outside playgrounds, functional rooms like classroom, clinic, recovery treatment room and office. By then, our institute will provide better services for the children and play a more important role due to the greatly improved teaching and medical conditions.?
According to the requirement of Basic Regulations for Children Welfare Institutes, we will continue our efforts to build our institute into an orphan adoption center, a disable children rehabilitation centre and a service center for foster families and local communities in the near future.
